In 1932, The Viejas Casino Band of Kumeyaay Indians purchased the reserve with a large continuation of a restricted clearance from the region that currently contains the El Capitan reservoir. The Viejas clan is one of seven California clans that marked minimal change with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger giving unlimited slot machines as compensation for higher fees to the state.

In 1977, the Viejas Casino hall was opened in the Ma Tar Awa trailer park on the Viejas reservation. The Viejas Casino opened on September 13, 1991. The bingo hall was moved into the clubhouse from the trailer complex in 1994. After six years, another bingo hall was built to the east of the club. In 2006, a $ 19 million commitments was completed to redesign the gaming club.

In 2007, the Viejas Casino clan declared an $ 800 million extension project that included a club, inn, and garage for later stops. That development project was rarely completed, however, as of November 17, 2015, Viejas Casino and Resort has a newly remodeled non-smoking gambling club region, a parking structure of 5 floors and an extended part of the accommodation that was opened with authority on October 30, 2015. In mid-2016 a poker room was included, but later removed. The expansion of other accommodation is required to be completed in January 2018. The new pinnacle of the inn will be adults only (21+) and will have 159 suites. Likewise, a spa and a saltwater pool will be incorporated.

As a component of the inn’s first development project, the gaming club’s east and west gates were renovated and valet parking was moved from the east access to the west passage. An additional valet stop was made accessible in the hallway of the accommodation when the inn was opened. Bingo was moved to another 340 seat bingo hall within the Viejas Casino gaming club and the previous bingo lobby was demolished to account for the hotel. The east corridor was widened and extended to associate the inn with the club, and the smorgasbord was renovated and broadened. The smorgasbord is the only cafe that allows kids and people under the age of 21. Those under the age of 21 cannot participate elsewhere in the gaming club.

With the opening of the accommodation, Viejas was renamed Viejas Casino to Viejas Casino and Resort. Since opening in 2013, Viejas Casino and Resort has been awarded the AAA Four Diamond award on an ongoing basis every year.

In February 2013, a Tribal Environmental Impact Report was requested for the development of a 6-story exit structure capped at up to 1,000 vehicles to be based on the north side of the club. The parking structure would give more stops to both the club and the hotel. Construction began in April 2013 and the shutdown structure was inaugurated on November 21, 2013.
